Best Time to Visit

Lakshadweep makes for a popular family holiday and honeymoon destination, owing to its white sandy beaches, serene landscapes, and charm. It is best to visit Lakshadweep between May to September, when the weather is most pleasant and most conducive to participating in many activities. The peak season for Lakshadweep is during the months of December to February, however. The monsoon rains between June and August that take place after the summer months make the place even greener.

Places in Lakshadweep

Andretti

Andretti, also known as Andrott island, is the largest island in Lakshadweep. The island has historical significance, featuring the ruins of a Buddhist site. It is also known for its lighthouse, a famous landmark with scenic views.

Agatti

Agatti is the only island in Lakshadweep with an airport, making travel to Lakshadweep extremely convenient. It boasts a 25 km lagoon area and total expanse of 3.3 km sq.

Minicoy

Locally known as Maliku, Minicoy is the second largest and southernmost among the islands of the Lakshadweep archipelago.

Kadmath

Kadmath’s main attractions are the long sandy beaches and sand banks on the southern tip. Tourist huts built amidst palm groves facing the lagoon allow you to soak in the pristine beauty of the ecosystem. Kayaks, sailing boats, pedal boats, skiing boats and glass-bottomed boats are available for hire.

Kalpeni

Two small islets of Tilakkam and Pitto form a single atoll with Kalpeni. The island is also known as Koefaini and is popular for the enormous bay of coral debris believed to be deposited by a violent storm in 1847.

Bangaram

Tourism to Bangaram took off after the Agatti Aerodrome on the nearby Agatti island was commissioned and regular commercial flights from Kochi were established. Thinnakara island, just opposite of Bangaram, offers numerous adventure activities including scuba diving, snorkelling, deep sea fishing beside white sand beaches, a calm lagoon and a sparkling, clear coral reef.

Kiltan

Kiltan Island is a coral island belonging to the Amindivi subgroup of islands of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep in India. It is known for its rich marine life, vibrant coral reefs, and serene beaches. A place of tranquil beauty.

Chetlat

Chetlat Island is one of the least exploited areas in Lakshadweep and boasts of its untouched beauty. The white sandy beach dotted with coconut palms provides a picturesque setting for relaxation and sunbathing. The clear blue waters and the gentle sea breeze create a perfect ambiance for a peaceful retreat.

Bitra

Bitra Island, the smallest inhabited island in Lakshadweep, is a tranquil haven with a population of nearly 300. Bitra also has the largest lagoon in Lakshadweep, on the north-eastern tip of a large coral ring reef.

Thinnakara

Situated just opposite Bangaram island, Thinnakara shares with it the vast lagoon and coralline banks. Tinnakara is a tiny teardrop shaped island which lies 8 km northeast from Agatti.

Amini

Amini Island was one of the first islands in the archipelago to be inhabited. The artisans on this island are known for making walking sticks out of coconut shells and tortoise shells as well as carved stone and coral motifs.

Kavaratti

One of the most developed Laccadive islands, Kavaratti is a coral paradise. The supervising tourism board offers two packages called ‘Coral Reef’ and ‘Taratashi’. The island is home to a total of 52 mosques.

Fishing

Lakshadweep islands are a paradise for fishing lovers. Though modern and innovative fishing ways are also being incorporated, the islands are quite popular for their traditional fishing methods and rich fishing grounds.

Yacht Cruise

Cruises are arranged for various Lakshadweep islands from Cochin by the government tourism board. Other luxury and private cruise ships are also available for easy transportation and a memorable experience.

Pitti Bird Sanctuary

Located on the Pakshipitti Coral Islet, Pitti Bird Sanctuary lies about 24 km northwest of Kavaratti. With latest tourism development, ferrying to the tiny islet has become quite feasible Kalpeni and Kavaratti.

Scuba Diving

Scuba Diving is one of the most amazing things that can be done in Lakshadweep. The dive centres are present on the islands of Bangaram, Minicoy and Kavaratti.
